We have done more than 140 jobs in Mooloolaba since January 2024. More than 50 of them were furniture moves, and the rest were rubbish runs. Mooloolaba is a small suburb with a lot of variety packed in: apartment buildings along the Esplanade and around the Spit, older unit blocks a street or two back from the beach, and houses on the slopes heading up toward Buderim and Mountain Creek.

Mooloolaba moves rarely go far. The most common destination for a Mooloolaba move is Maroochydore, a short drive up the coast, and the next most common is another address in Mooloolaba. That makes most of our work here a short hop where the drive is minutes and the real work is getting furniture out of one building and into the next.

Parking is the first question

In most suburbs, the first thing we ask about is stairs. In Mooloolaba it's parking. The Esplanade and the streets around it are busy, especially on weekends and through the holidays, and a vehicle that has to stop a block away adds a lot of walking to every trip. Before your move, find out:

• Is there a loading zone or driveway we can use at your building, and does it have time limits?
• Can we use the basement car park? Some buildings allow a visitor bay near the lift for a move. Check the height clearance, as a truck may not fit where a car does.
• Is street parking metered or time-limited? If so, tell us and we'll plan around it.

The answers go straight into the estimate. A move where the truck parks at the lift door is quicker, and cheaper, than one where everything goes down the footpath.

Mooloolaba removalist prices

We charge by the hour. Before you book, we estimate the loading time, the drive and the unloading time from your item list and the access at each end, and that gives you your price.

Extra time beyond the estimate is billed in 15-minute blocks, and you pay once the job is done. There are no fuel or booking fees. Saturday moves are available with our truck crew at 1.5 times the weekday rate, though weekdays are usually easier for parking near the beach. Every rate is on the prices page.

Walk-ups, lifts and balconies

The older blocks behind the beachfront are often walk-ups with no lift, sometimes several floors up. The newer towers have lifts, but they're shared, and some buildings want a lift booked or padded for a move. Either way, tell us the floor and whether there's a lift. Two removalists are usually the better value on a walk-up, because a fridge or a queen bed on a stairwell needs a person at each end.

Balcony furniture catches people out. Outdoor settings, pot plants and barbecues are easy to forget when you write your list, and they all take time to wrap and carry. Put them in, even roughly.

Short moves to Maroochydore

Because Maroochydore is the most common destination, a lot of our Mooloolaba moves are a short drive between two unit buildings. On a short move like that, the hourly rate works in your favour. You're paying for loading and unloading, not a long haul. If both buildings have lifts and parking close by, a one-bedroom unit can be a fairly quick job with the right crew. Houses on the hill

Not all of Mooloolaba is apartments. The streets climbing away from the beach toward Mountain Creek and Buderim have houses on sloping blocks, some with steep driveways and stairs at the front or back. Those moves look more like a Buderim job than a beachfront one. Tell us about the driveway, how close the truck can get and how many steps there are, and we'll recommend one removalist or two based on what comes out cheaper.

A quick checklist for unit moves

• Book the lift, or confirm none is needed, with your building manager
• Confirm where the vehicle can stop, at both buildings
• Measure any large couch or wardrobe against the lift door
• Pack and tape boxes, and strip the beds before we arrive
• Have the keys to the new place, and any access fobs, ready

Rubbish out on the same trip

Units have limited storage, so moving out often turns up things that aren't worth taking. We can take unwanted furniture and rubbish to the Buderim Transfer Station on Syd Lingard Drive on the same trip.
